Check out one of the exhibitions at the Detroit Historical Museum, explore that part of Detroit history, and please reflect on what you learned about that exhibit.

The Detroit Historical Society Museum exhibition that I chose to explore was the Motor City Music exhibition. It is an interactive space that allows visitors to explore Detroit’s rich music history from Gospel to Motown. This exhibition was so exciting for me to explore because during my day to day working for a social enterprise that is mainly focused on the entrepreneurial and economic landscape of Detroit, I do not typically get to learn about the arts, music, and culture scene and history of Detroit, which I am realizing how much I love the more I learn! As a dancer, I have been exposed to so much more music than I may otherwise have been exposed to, and I always really enjoy learning about the origins of some of the music. Though I always knew Detroit was home to so many musical greats including Aretha Franklin, Madonna, The Supremes, and Bob Seger, among so many others, and the center of so much great music, of course especially Motown, I learned just how large an impact Detroit has had on every genre of music from rock and pop music to gospel, blues, hip-hop, and techno. My co-workers at ProsperUS have raved about their experiences going to live music events in Detroit, and I hope one day I will be able to visit the Detroit Historical Society Museum in person and to experience and enjoy all it has to offer.
